About the Bible

 

FACTS ABOUT THE BIBLE:

 

·                    The Holy Bible is the best-selling book in history by far.

·                    The printing press invented by Johannes Gutenberg is considered by many the greatest invention in history. Gutenberg invented the printing press solely to print Bibles.

·                    The oldest version of the Bible can be found in Alexandria, Greece, and was written around 1050 A.D. (or almost 1000 years ago).

·                    The word “bible” means “little books.”  

 

THE OLD TESTAMENT (the Hebrew Scriptures)

 

·                    Written between 1400 and 200 BC, before Christ, or between 3400 and 2200 years ago.

·                    Some writers are known, but many are unknown.

·                    Deals with the relationship between God and a nation or country.

 

THE NEW TESTAMENT (the Christian Scriptures)

 

·                    Written between 40 and 100 AD, anno domini (Latin), or after the birth of Jesus. (We are presently in the year 2010 AD.)

·                    Almost all of the writers are known.

·                    Deals with the relationship between God and the individual.

·                    Also called the New Covenant which is based on faith in Jesus Christ.

 

Both the Old and New Testaments are divided into smaller sections:

                        The Pentateuch, Books of the Law or the Books of Moses

 

                                    Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy

 

                        History Books
